Q. naira² [ñ-] adj. “vast, wide, empty” (Category: Wide, Broad)
An adjective glossed “vast, wide, empty” appearing in an etymology for Q. ëar and S. gaear “sea”, part of a paradigm where the root of all these words was √(Ñ)GAY “gape, become wide, open, vast” (PE17/27). Elsewhere the root for “sea” words was usually √GAY(AR) having to do with “awe, dread; astound” (PM/363; WJ/400) as with S./N. gaer “awful, fearful, dreadful”, so I think this adjective was a transient idea.
